Long Island woman busted for ‘deplorable’ animal cruelty again

A Long Island woman has been busted on animal cruelty charges for the second time in less than two years, officials said Tuesday.
Shannon King, 32 — who is currently on probation from a 2017 arrest for neglecting her pit bull — was nabbed Monday night when 10 dogs and two cats were allegedly discovered “living in deplorable conditions” inside her Amityville home, Suffolk County SPCA chief Roy Gross told The Post.
The Suffolk County Probation Department discovered the horrific situation after an officer went there to conduct a welfare check, officials said.
“The stench was overwhelming — even outside the home,” Gross said.
According to Gross, some of the canines — which included bulldogs, Great Danes, and Yorkies — were allegedly confined in feces-filled cages.
One dog was allegedly found “severely emaciated,” the SPCA said.
The animals’ bones were “visible and protruding” and “there was feces and insects on the floor and an overwhelming smell of feces and urine,” added Amityville Police Department chief Glenn Slack.
The abused dogs and cats were also “severely dehydrated,” Gross claimed, adding, “There was absolutely no water available to them.”
King was taken to the Amityville Police Department and later arraigned and released on her own recognizance, according to the SCPA. She is slated to appear in Amityville Justice Court on Tuesday night.
The animals were brought to the Babylon Animal Shelter.
Meanwhile, the local buildings department deemed King’s Sterling Place home “uninhabitable,” Gross said.
King was previously arrested on animal cruelty charges on Dec. 16, 2017, when a 1-year-old pit bull named Leeroy was found inside her home severely emaciated and covered in open sores.
Gross urged anyone who suspects animal cruelty to “please call because an animal cannot pick up the phone.”
